Criteria
A sworn peace officer's death is classified as line-of-duty if it directly results from lawful and reasonable enforcement actions or emergency responses they are authorized or obligated to perform, as dictated by law, rule, regulation, or conditions of their employment, appointment, or service.
This classification applies whether the officer is on or off duty and includes deaths indirectly linked to line-of-duty incidents or directly resulting from injuries sustained due to their status as an officer with the Edmonton Police Service (EPS).
