Cst. Brett Ryan
End of Watch: March 16, 2023
Constable Brett Ryan was fatally injured on March 16, 2023, while responding to a family dispute in an apartment complex. Upon arrival, Constable Ryan and Constable Travis Jordan went inside the building, approached the suite, and were shot by a young male suspect. The two officers were rushed to hospital, where they were both declared deceased.
Prior to joining the Edmonton Police Service (EPS), Brett served as a paramedic with Medavie Health Services in Saddle Lake. He then moved on to serve Edmonton Metro, as a member of First Platoon.
He also received his Firefighter I & II certificates in Crowley, Texas. Brett joined EPS Recruit Training Class 141 on Aug. 14, 2017. Upon graduating, he moved to West Branch, Squad 4.
Aside from golfing, Brett volunteered with Minor Hockey in the Supervision Program and enjoyed being a hockey referee. His recruit class described him as having outstanding interpersonal skills, excelling at public speaking, and staying calm in stressful situations.
Constable Ryan was 30 years old at the time of his death. He is survived by his wife and son.
