End of Watch: June 25, 1990

Constable Faraone was shot while attempting to apprehend suspects in a bank robbery.

Constable Ezio Faraone joined the Edmonton Police Service on April 19, 1981, as a member of Recruit Training Class 63.

On June 25, 1990, Constable Faraone was assigned to a Tactical Team Unit.  Following an armed robbery at a local bank, Faraone found the vehicle used by the two suspects in an alleyway. Faraone observed only one suspect with the vehicle. With his attention focused on this suspect, a second suspect hidden from view in the backseat, exited the vehicle and shot Constable Faraone.

Constable Faraone was 33 years old at the time of his death. Two years after his death, Constable Ezio Faraone Park was opened to the public. The centerpiece of the park is a 300 kg bronze statue of Constable Faraone by noted Edmonton sculptor Danek Mozdzenski. The statue shows Constable Faraone kneeling to speak with a child.  Mozdzenski said his intention was to show him as “an unusually kind, considerate and good-humoured man.”
